Sex-linked mutations
These sit on the Z chromosome. Cocks (ZZ) can carry them invisibly as splits; hens (ZW) cannot — a hen is either wild-type or visual.
Autosomal recessive mutations
Two copies are needed to show. One copy makes an invisible split carrier. Cocks and hens inherit these identically.
Dilute
Thins melanin across the whole bird for a softer, washed-out version of the normal pattern.
Fallow
Red-eyed mutation that lightens black eumelanin; tracked separately from Dun Fallow.
Dun Fallow
Red-eyed, shifting black toward greyish brown. Its status as a distinct Turquoisine mutation is unsettled.
Faded
Lightens overall pigmentation. This is the mutation the old name “Isabel” refers to in this species.
Recessive Pied
Symmetrical patches of clear, unpigmented feathering that vary from bird to bird.
Dominant & incomplete dominant mutations
Always visible if carried — there is no hidden split state. With incomplete dominance, one copy and two copies look different from each other.
Dark Factor
Bright Green → Dark Green → Olive as copies are added. Always visible, never split.
Grey
Single and double factor look identical, but zygosity still changes the odds for every chick.
Violet Factor
Shifts the blue component toward violet. Stacks with the Dark Factor series.
Red Suffusion
A selection trait, not settled genetics. “Red-fronted” and “Red-bellied” are two names for it, not two grades.
